Soft Sugar Cookies | Coffee, Me and Cookies

These Soft Sugar Cookies are melt-in-your-mouth delicious!  Frost them with your favorite icing colors, then top with sprinkles or candy for a sweet treat you and your kids are going to love.

How to make Thick & Soft Sugar Cookies

Combine the first three ingredients: All-purpose flour, baking soda, salt in a bowl, set aside
Cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and mix until well combined for 2 minutes


Add flour mixture to wet ingredients and blend, then add milk until smooth.
Roll out dough on floured board to 1/2 inch thick.  Cut out cookies with a cookie-cutter, or glass jar. Place 2-inches apart on parchment-lined or silicone baking mats.



Bake 9-13 minutes or until light brown.  Let cool for 2 minutes on the baking sheet, then move to wire rack

Decorate with frosting, sprinkles, or crushed candy cane pieces. Great for Holiday sugar cookie shapes.

Easy Icing for Sugar Cookies
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or almond extract
  • In a small bowl, stir together confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth. Beat in corn syrup and extract until icing is smooth and glossy. If icing is too thick, add more corn syrup.

Soft Sugar Cookies with Sprinkles


Storing Sugar Cookies

Store these cookies in a container with a tight-fitting lid. To keep your moist cookies soft and chewy, place a quarter slice of bread into the container. The cookies will absorb moisture from the breadkeeping them soft longer.
